Mary Rose Rizzo Calandra, 97, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at Azalealand Nursing Home. Mary was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1912. She lived most of her adult years in Pelham Bay, New York.

She is predeceased by her husband, Antone L. Calandra Sr. Mary, a devout Catholic, was a distinguished member of St. Theresa of the Little Flower R.C. Parish, NY. She volunteered for several years in the Altar Society, Rosary Society, and The Children of Blessed Mother Society.

Mary retired from Metropolitan Insurance Company, NYC in 1977, after working several years as coordinator and training director /claims division. During her later senior years, Mary moved to Savannah to be near her oldest son and his family. She volunteered her time at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Mary was the proud mother of 3 children, Anthony L. Calandra of Savannah, Joseph Calandra of Ardsley, NY and Linda Calandra-Porter of Bergen County, NJ. Her loving family includes her devoted daughters-in-law, Lavonne K. Calandra, and Angelina Calandra, son-in-law, Robert S. Porter, 6 grandchildren, Anthony J. Calandra Karen, Michael J. Calandra, Lisa Ann Calandra, Michael P. Tombari, Joann Motta Donald, and Richard J. Tombari Elizabeth. Mary adored her 7 great-grandchildren, Brandon Calandra, Zachary Calandra, Logan Calandra, Katie Calandra, Margaret Mary Calandra, Theresa Calandra and Sebastian Bowen-Tombari. Mary's love for her family brought her great joy in life.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled at St. James Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Ash Branch Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406 or Coastal Empire Polio Survivors Association, Inc., 23 E. 61st Street, Savannah, GA 31405.
